As we are nearing the last part of the current year many of us will soon begin to reflect upon our lives... You know? Where we are at... Where we want to go..... How we are going to get there. A lot of us consider making a "new year resolution," but really, that's all that we do - consider it. What is, in fact, a resolution? According to research, a resolution is " a firm decision to do or not to do something.... the action of solving a problem." What is key there, is the operationalization of "firm." That implies that the decision is well thought out, organized, planned and has the ability to be measured. So, whether we are talking about physical health, lifestyle, vocation, relationships, mental health, or spiritual, a thought is only a thought, and a wish is only a wish; unless it is firm. What am I going to do? Why am I going to do it? For how long am I going to do it? How often? Frequency? Do I need assistance? From whom? What other supports do I need? How will I know when it has been accomplished? It is impossible to accomplish anything without a plan..... And the plan needs to be firm.
